Data migration, a subset of the data integration market, has historically been achieved using conventional data integration and quality tools or even hand coding – but most migration projects ran over time and budget.
Philip Howard points out in his new Data Migration market update report that, despite software enhancements, the picture was no better in 2007 than in 1999. From this and other factors he concludes that traditional tools on their own are not enough – and that the market is actually immature.
As it is a $5bn sub-market in its own right, there is a strong case for tools vendors to recognise the importance of addressing the market’s specialized requirements.
