Accessibility and ICT

The paralympics showed how capable and motivated people with disabilities can be. This motivation and ability is not confined to sport but relates to all area of life especially the use of ICT. Unfortunately not all uses of ICT have been developed to be accessible and this means that many people with disabilities are excluded. This situation is not the intention of the commissioners and developers of these systems; it occurs because of: a lack of awareness of inclusive design and its benefits, and the lack of tools that create accessibility by default. Things are improving in both these area; so the hope is that ICT will be much more inclusive by the time of Rio.
